Cleo Rogers Memorial County Library

Site overview

This small, but well-planned library is a contrast in comparison to Pei's more familiar, grandly-scaled structures. For the Cleo Rogers Memorial, he wisely selected a simple and direct design complementing the surrounding environment. The entry plaza, paved with red brick, extends to form the building's wall. A superb sculptural arch by Henry Moore is also found in the entry space. (Adapted from A Field Guide to Landmarks of Modern Architecture in the United States, by Miriam F. Stimpson)
