Host a Tour Day Event
Docomomo US Tour Day is a series of events that raises the awareness of and appreciation for buildings, interiors, neighborhoods and landscapes designed in the United States during the mid-20th century. Tour Day invites organizations and people across the country to take stock of significant 20th century built design in their state, city, region or neighborhood and celebrate that work with a tour.
Although Tour Day began as a regional event through the Docomomo US chapters, any non-profit (501c3) organization can organize a tour. Some of our past partners have included preservation organizations such as the Los Angeles Conservancy, Houston Mod, and the Historic Albany Foundation as well as architecture related organizations like the Chicago Architecture Foundation, the Society of Architectural Historians and the Philip Johnson Glass House.
Docomomo US Tour Day can also be much more than just a tour. Some of our best Tour Day events include pre-tour lectures, meet-and-greet with the architects, post-event receptions. Events can be unique one-day or weekend events, they can be an encore tour your organization has given previously or an on-going event that might deserve more local or national attention.

Tour Day Host Details
Any nonprofit organization in the United States can propose a Tour Day event. Last year, more than 2000 people took part in 36 tours in 22 states.
Tour Day is our national annual event bringing together Docomomo US chapters, architecture and preservation organizations, members, students, architects, historians and the general public to celebrate the modern movement in the US.
Tour Day 2013 takes place on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Although most tours are organized for Saturday, events will take place throughout the weekend.
Tour Day is a national event happening from coast to coast. Expected locations for 2013 include: Northern California, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, New England, Florida, Dallas, Austin/San Antonio, Houston, Georgia, Minnesota, New Orleans, North Carolina, Palm Springs, New Haven, Albany, Phoenix, St. Louis, Detroit, Ann Arbor and Portland, Oregon.
While the mid-20th century is enjoying a bit of a cultural renaissance, architecture from the time period is often misunderstood and undervalued. Tour Day seeks to bring awareness to the technical, historic and aesthetic value buildings of this time period have in our current society and culture.

If you’re an interested organization, drop us an email, or complete the following Tour Day form. There is no cost to partner organizations for hosting a tour and you will be provided with Tour Day support materials for your event. What we will need in return is your tour name and description, details for registration along with an image and logo from your organization. Partner organizers are asked to include Tour Day and the Docomomo US logo on event signage, flyers, websites or other materials related to the event.
