Docomomo US/DC will host a walking tour of the modernist enclave of Southwest Washington DC on Oct. 11. To mark Docomomo-US’s National Tour Day, the newly formed Washington chapter will highlight the neighborhood’s historically significant mid-century modern architecture.

Southwest DC boasts the greatest concentration of mid-century modern resources in the city, with buildings and landscapes by Charles Goodman, I.M. Pei, Chloethiel Woodard Smith, Harry Weese, Sasaki Walker and Partners, and Dan Kiley, to name just a few.

The event will begin with an introductory talk by Dr. Richard Longstreth of George Washington University at Arena Stage, followed by two walking tours and a reception in the roof-top Club Room at the Smith-designed Harbour Square, which overlooks the Potomac River. The tour will also include access to unique interior spaces of the neighborhood's most noted projects, including Arena Stage, Waterfront Tower and River Park.

The tour is jointly hosted by Docomomo-US/DC, the DC Preservation League (DCPL), and the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly (SWNA)
