Modern Spaces of Fort Worth — a Plaza, a Park, a Garden

Heritage Plaza

N Houston St
Fort Worth, TX
Image details

Join Docomomo US/North Texas and Historic Fort Worth in for a guided tour of three significant public spaces that (originally) combined landscape and water. Each provides its own response to the environment, be it meditative or interactive while providing compelling examples of the success and failures of public spaces in urban settings.

The tour will begin at Heritage Plaza, design by Lawrence Halprin in 1976 as part of Fort Worth's Bicentennial Celebration. Shuttered since 2007, participants will have an exclusive and rare opportunity to tour the plaza and to hear from the team managing its restoration. Participants will then walk to Burnett Park, designed in 1984 by Peter Walker and renovated in 2010 (also by Walker). The tour will wrap up at the 1974 Water Gardens by Philip Johnson (once featured in the cult film Logan's Run.)
